Group Therapy can be a powerful experience that promotes growth and change in individuals. My groups are generally made up of 5-6 individuals who share common struggles.
The face-to-face setting of groups are designed to allow individuals to share their own experiences as well as listen and interact with others. Members will hear from multiple perspectives in a supportive, confidential and safe environment.
Group Therapy Benefits
People participating in a shared group experience additional benefits than typical one-on-one counseling, including:

1. Belonging to a group that accepts and understands your situation.
2. Gaining an awareness that you are not alone in your experience.
3. Having an opportunity to help others with common struggles.
4. Learning how you are perceived by others.
5. Improving your interpersonal skills.
6. Receiving guidance from others who are walking a similar path.
7. Having an opportunity to express your feelings and get things off your chest.
8. Observing admirable qualities / skills in others and adopting those as your own.
9. Being part of a group can have family like qualities that shed light on early life experiences.
10. Engaging with others can result in self-awareness and a deeper understanding of who you are.
11. Seeing others improve provides hope and encouragement.
12. The instillation of hope for the future.

How It Works

At Rebuild Mental Health Counseling, I use both Psychoeducational and Process group formats.

Psychoeducational Groups are generally structured around specific topics and have specific timelines. They are designed to deliver specific content and are often accompanied by a workbook or independent worksheets.

This group types consists of 4-6 members and are typically considered “open” groups. Membership can change at various points.
Process Groups often have an open timeline and operate as a closed group. Once the membership of a process group is established, new members are not admitted unless approved by the group. Process Groups are generally unstructured, relying on members to interact with each other about issues they are dealing with.

Many of my groups are formed around specific interests and life events, so members will engage in conversations and share experience related to that specific topic. I screen all potential members to make sure they are a good fit for our groups. I reserve the right to refuse services to individuals I feel may not benefit from or be a good fit with my group programs.
